Neighbour mediation

We understand that sometimes it can be difficult to talk to your neighbour about an issue that is bothering you. Perhaps you think you won’t be listened to. Maybe you are worried that things will be said that will make matters worse. If you’re stuck, mediation may help.  Neighbour mediation deals with disputes involving antisocial behaviour, noise, parking, harassment and boundaries etc

Mediation – Step by Step
Mediation Sheffield is a service that is available to all Sheffield Homes tenants. Neighbours who are not Sheffield Homes tenants (i.e. owner occupiers, private rented tenants and housing association tenants etc) can only access the service if they are in dispute with a Sheffield Homes tenant. In the Burngreave New Deal Area any one can access the service irrespective of tenure. In Rotherham Metropolitan Council mediation is currently available to all residents.

1)  If you are eligible for mediation you can contact us yourself or be referred through your housing officer. In either case you will speak to our case assessor who will listen to you and explain how mediation works. Your situation will be assessed and it will be decided whether mediation is appropriate for you.

2) If we think mediation would be of help then two mediators will visit you at your home at a time convenient for you, or you may prefer an office visit

3) Mediators will only visit your neighbour with your permission. All parties are offered our help equally.

4) You choose the next step

Please note – we do not expect neighbours to meet together (with mediators present) unless all parties think it would be a positive thing to do.
